The Anime

The anime sticks to the manga origins of Mamoru and his parents death, but it also adds an interesting story, from the SailorMoon R Movie.

While in the hospital, little Mamochan had one best friend, a boy named Fiore. One day he learned that Fiore had to leave and he cried heartbreakingly in his room. Then a little girl with small odangos appears. It is Usagi/Serena whose mother just gave birth to Shingo (Sammy).

Usagi has brought roses to give to her mother, and when she sees little Mamochan crying, she rests her head on his lap and tells him not to cry. She tells him how she is an older sister today and asks mamochan why he is crying. Mamoru tells her that he is crfying because his best friend is leaving and he nothing to give him. Usagi then hands Mamoru one of her roses, Mamochan looks at her with such gratitude.

His tears stop.

He then gives the rose to Fiore.

The rose, ever since then, has been a symbol of friendship and care for Mamochan.
